The Lord is my light and my salvation, who shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1).
Recently I was reading Dante’s Inferno, and came across a line that was at once obvious, and yet profound:
We should fear those things alone
that have the power to harm.
Nothing else is frightening.
It raises the all-important question—what has the power to harm? There are real answers to that question. And the child of God will answer the question differently than the child of the world.
